Spring runoff left downtown lots buried in debris
The Challenge
After the heavy rains in spring 2014, the downtown Millbrook area had more than just standing water. Broken limbs, torn roofing scraps, mud, and soaked trash packed into the edges of job sites and alley access points, and the smell got stronger by the afternoon. Jamal looked at those bypass areas and saw how fast that mess could block cleanup work and slow traffic around small businesses. We knew if we didn’t get ahead of it, the drainage issues and piles would keep spreading and make every next storm worse.
The Result
We rolled in with a dumpster sized for mixed debris, set it where crews could reach it without tearing up the pavement, and kept the drop area tight so trucks and workers could still move around downtown. Our crew loaded the wet, heavy material first, then the lighter storm debris, because that’s the only way to keep a load stable in damp weather. Jamal stayed hands-on with the route and pickup plan, and that cleanup gave the area room to drain again and let the work move forward without the mess hanging around.
We got the drainage area cleared fast, and I finally felt like the block could breathe again.
